Your top choice for compassionateIn-Home Care in Waterford, FL

It's often said that the golden years of your life are the most enjoyable. For most older adults in the U.S., it's a time to unwind, reflect, and live in the comfort of familiar surroundings. And that's how it should be - most senior citizens in America worked hard to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise their families. Shouldn't they be able to age with grace and dignity at home?

The answer is undoubtedly "yes," but as seniors age, they sometimes need assistance to live independently. Unfortunately, many older adults are unable to rely on adult children for help due to busy schedules, a lack of expertise, or both. That's where Mind & Mobility's home care in Waterford, FL begins to make a lot of sense.

Our in-home care services cater to those who want to stay in their homes as they age but require ongoing care that their loved ones cannot provide. Nowadays, most seniors prefer to live away from long-term care facilities and closer to their home where they feel most at ease.

If you or your senior loved one wants to thrive in their own house and avoid care facilities, in-home care is an effective, safe way to give family and friends the care they need when they need it the most.

The Mind & Mobility Difference

Mind & Mobility is a home care agency that takes pride in helping seniors enjoy life at home with grace and comfort. One of the biggest reasons why so many seniors and their families choose us is that our senior caregivers in Waterford, FL, do more than just change bedsheets and prepare meals. They make it a point to provide compassionate care and connect with patients on a personal level.

Instead of eliminating independence from our senior population in Florida, we believe in maximizing it - a goal that's not always supported by assisted living facilities and nursing homes. In fact, those locations are often overpriced, understaffed, and known for the spread of disease. Senior care from Mind & Mobility provides a more emotionally and financially relieving option, whether you need a little help around the house or more involved services like companion care or dementia care.

While we take pride in providing compassionate caregiving services for seniors at home, we also offer clients free access to our Mind & Mobility Homecare Center in South Florida. Here, your senior can receive treatment from therapists who are experts in physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

Our therapists work collaboratively in a supportive environment, taking into consideration the client's needs and concerns. They combine their expertise with the latest research in their fields to deliver cutting-edge, evidence-based services. With unlimited access to one-on-one sessions, our therapists' top priority is to help seniors live and age gracefully at home without having to relocate to an assisted living facility.

What is Senior Care in Waterford, FL?

Many older adults in the United States prefer to age at home, as it offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity. According to an AARP report, three out of four adults aged 50 and above wish to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

However, as adults approach their 60s and 70s, some may require assistance around the house, especially when family members are too busy or live far away. The truth is that the natural process of aging can make it challenging to continue living at home. Simple tasks like running errands become more difficult due to mobility issues. Preparing healthy meals and keeping track of medications and appointments can also become a challenge. Safety becomes a concern, and family members may worry about the well-being of their loved ones.

In these situations, in-home care is often a perfect fit. It allows seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

Mind & Mobility provides a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they receive the help they need to remain independent. If you have a senior loved one who needs some extra help to stay happy and healthy, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even from afar.

Companion Care You Can Count On

Aging in place refers to the practice of aging adults living in their homes as they grow old. Studies show that around 77% of retirees prefer to stay in their homes for as long as possible, and home care can be an excellent way to bridge the gap between receiving elder care and staying at home.

Allowing your aging loved ones to maintain their independence is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. This can contribute to their overall health and well-being, as opposed to a living facility where they may feel powerless and depressed. Unfortunately, these facilities often take away a senior's ability to do simple things like cooking for themselves, scheduling visits with family and friends, and even bathing in the comfort of their own homes.

Home care in Waterford, FL, including companion care services, is designed to provide both medical and non-medical solutions that your senior needs in order to maintain their independence. That way, your senior doesn't have to destabilize their life or adjust to a new way of living away from home.

Take a Break with RespiteCare Services from Mind & Mobility

Taking care of a senior loved one can be a tiring and overwhelming task, particularly if the caregiver is employed full-time and has other responsibilities to handle. Taking care of an older adult in such a situation can result in caregiver burnout, which can lead to a decline in the quality of care provided and even illness. To combat this issue, many adult caregivers choose respite care as a solution instead of full-time home care in Waterford, FL.

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults in the United States provide care to someone aged 50 or older. Unfortunately, many of these caregivers experience stress, fatigue, and even depression.

Respite care services offer a short-term break to family members and unpaid caregivers from their caregiving duties. This is a crucial service that benefits both seniors and their caregivers and can be arranged for a few hours or even several days, depending on their requirements.

What are the Benefits of Respite Care from Mind & Mobility?

Respite care services can have a significantly positive impact on the health of your elderly loved one, as well as your own. Whether it's for an extended period of time or just a few hours a week, respite care can help ease the burden of caregiving.

Taking some time off for yourself may seem selfish at first, but it's crucial to recharge your batteries to be able to continue providing care. Taking a short (or longer-term) break can also improve the overall quality of your care. Plus, professional respite care services offer your senior an opportunity to learn from and engage with a compassionate caregiver from Mind & Mobility.

Three Hurdles That Family Caregivers Face

Caring for your aging parents can be a fulfilling act of love. As you reminisce about the care they gave you while growing up, you now have the opportunity to return the favor. However, providing care for loved ones can be challenging. It's important to anticipate the obstacles you may face and learn how to manage them to protect your own health and well-being.

Here are three of the toughest challenges that family caregivers have to face when caring for their senior parents or loved ones.

Enough Support

Not Enough Support

It's common to feel like you're carrying the majority of the burden when it comes to taking care of your aging parents. However, assuming that you are solely responsible for their care can be overwhelming and cause strain in other relationships. It's important to remember that caring for someone else is not a one-person job. Attempting to do so can lead to burnout, depression, and other serious health issues. It can also negatively impact the level of care your parents receive.

Enough Sleep

Not Enough Sleep

Interrupted sleep can be a problem for older adults whose circadian clock has shifted, leading them to wake up more frequently throughout the night. It can also be a result of stress and worry. If dementia is a factor, you may need to stay alert due to sundowning and wandering. Those tasks can be difficult and require a sharp mind that has had plenty of rest. In fact, getting enough sleep is crucial for your ability to provide the best care for your parents, as well as for your own physical and emotional well-being.

Enough Privacy

Not Enough Privacy

Sharing living space with your parents can compromise both your physical and emotional privacy. This is especially true if one or both of your parents have dementia, which can cause them to feel afraid or disoriented when you're not around. At the same time, your parents may also find it difficult to maintain their privacy while under your care.

That begs the question - how can you conquer the challenges that most family caregivers face on a daily basis?

In-Home Care in Waterford, FL Helps Alleviate Your Burden

Mind & Mobility's in-home caregivers can be there to help you ensure the best care for your parents and a healthier life balance for yourself. Taking a break from caregiving is not just a great idea; it's essential.

Our respite care services offer you regular breaks from caregiving, which allows you to take care of yourself while enriching your parents' lives. We provide opportunities for socialization and engaging activities, along with the necessary support to ensure safety and comfort. You can rest easy knowing that your parents are in the best of hands while you take a break.

A new miniature golf course is in the works for Waterford Lakes, but don’t expect the whimsical props that have come to define the sport. This complex is ushering in a new era for the family-friendly game. PopStroke is planning two 18-hole putting courses on a two-and-a-half-acre lot near the Regal Waterford Lakes movie theater.

This will be the third location for PopStroke and the first Central Florida location. The South Florida-based miniature golf concept opened its first location in Port St. Lucie in 2018, followed by a second location in Fort Myers, which opened last year.

Replacing the whimsical kid-focused courses with what look like actual golf courses, but miniaturized, PopStroke gives mini golf an adult-focused makeover. A similar concept exists at Disney World with the Fantasia Fairways Miniature Golf Course — with real sand traps and water hazards, that course has been rated as one of the world's most challenging miniature golf courses. (It also seems to be a favorite of golfer Bubba Watson.)

Image via PopStroke | Facebook

At Waterford Lakes, PopStroke will have a 9,472-square-foot building with an expansive sports bar-style restaurant. A bar with an outdoor area will overlook the courses, with two more bars indoors. A small shaded, gated playground will be found just to the east of the building. The complex, replacing a parking lot, sits directly behind a strip of restaurants and across from the movie theater. A Tesla supercharger station in the existing parking lot will remain.

Billed as a “technology-infused golf-entertainment concept,” players can track their opponents via a Jumbotron-style scoreboard and follow their own progress on a mobile app.

PopStroke is just the latest in a trend of combining less popular, and often kid-focused, activities with elevated food and drink offerings. As far back as 1996, places like GameWorks tried to merge activities like arcades with a more bar-like atmosphere for what has become known as competitive socializing.

More recently, the trend has seen an uptick with concepts like TopGolf, Splitsville, WhirlyDome, Kings Bowl and Main Event. Each combines one or more activities, such as a driving range or bowling, with gastropub offerings and a handful of other minor activities, such as cornhole or foosball. Specialty cocktails and a wide range of beers are typical. In recent years, axe throwing, go-karts and escape rooms have also become popular activities at competitive socializing venues.

In recent years Orlando has seen multiple similar businesses open across the region. To differentiate themselves, some have attached well-known names. Andretti Indoor Karting & Games features nods to the motorsports family, including replicas of famous Andretti racing cars.

PopStroke has a partnership with Tiger Woods and his golf course design firm, TGR Design, overseeing the design of all new courses for the company, including the Orlando ones. The CFO of TGR Ventures, Chris Hubman, sits on the PopStroke Board of Directors, alongside the President of NBC Sports and former CEO of PGA of America, Peter Bevacqua, and Greg Bartoli, PopStroke’s founder.

Tiger Woods is featured prominently in the existing PopStroke locations. Every player leaves with a Bridgestone Golf ball, the official golf balls used by Woods.

The Orlando Business Journal, who were first to give details on the new Waterford Lakes location, reports that two to three other PopStroke locations are planned for Central Florida, with a possibility of one being located somewhere in the tourist corridor.

On their website, PopStroke says the Orlando location is set to open this year, though it’s unclear if the pandemic will delay those plans. Beyond Orlando, PopStroke locations are in the works for Scottsdale, Palm Beach and Sarasota.

Tired of the same old date ideas? Orlando’s newest attraction is a fun activity with good eats, drinks, outdoor games, and miniature golf. PopStroke Orlando is just what you’re looking for. And with it being an expertly designed putt putt golf course by Tiger Woods, it is a welcome addition to the Orlando area fun!

Located in Orlando’s Waterford Lakes area, PopStroke is a mostly outdoor venue that offers food, drink and putting greens. It is a new and experimental setup for a day of miniature golf.

The putting greens are Tiger Woods designed and are more like your traditional golf than an obstacle filled mini-golf would be. There are two courses offered (36 total holes) which are all included in a day pass, to play how much or as little as you desire.

The Venue offers two full bars, an ice cream counter and plenty of outdoor seating. It’s very near the University of Central Florida, so we imagine that it’ll be quite the hang out when classes return in the fall. Chill with your friends or on a date for something active, and a tad challenging. Watch whatever football, baseball, and other sports events are on big TVs, and enjoy some yard games.

The PopStroke phone app is the key to unlocking all things PopStoke. It requires a registration that will be explained once you enter the main room, “golf shop” like area. Once you purchase your day pass and activate it in the app the PopStroke employee will scan your QR code and explain which course is which.

At the Orlando location, the Black Course is deemed easier and more family-friendly but we were told that plenty of guests find the Red Course to be lots of fun.

The courses are designed with “sand pits” and there are slight elevations or dips in the greens, similar to your standard golf course. Each hole is different. A souvenir golf ball for each paid guest is yours to keep!

We found it was easier to have a person play until they finished each hole as the balls are all a similar color and the putting greens are kind of small. You keep score on a traditional scorecard but the PopStroke app also allows you to enter your scores in the app and tracks your scores to see how you held up against the other players. There’s a large TV screen over the venue that shows the current standings.

While golfing, each course has a pole with hooks for purses or bags and cup holders. To add some extra flair, PopStoke offers the ability to order drinks, using the app. Drinks are delivered to the putting green hole at which you are currently playing. Service is pretty quick and definitely convenient, however, it will be interesting to see when it is full of people.

This could be a fun birthday idea if you're looking for something active.

RELATED: Birthday Ideas for Adults

Once you enter into the venue you can freely walk around the space outside. Relax at either of the two bars, or the variety of seating to grab some good food and drinks. The app has a full menu. To eat in the restaurant area, you’ll be sat by a hostess and order from the PopStroke’s lovely servers, but you can walk up to the bartenders and order a drink on your own.

We sat in the restaurant and tried the Blackened Mahi Taco. They satisfied my craving for something light and flavorful. Their menu offers a range from wings, flatbreads, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, salads, churrasco skirt steak, fish and chips, and many more.

It is family friendly sports food, and a full kids menu is available too. A handful of beers are on tap and the offerings may change as we saw plenty of brewers meeting with the management team when we were there.

RELATED: A Beer Lover's Guide to Breweries in Orlando

PopStroke also has a full ice cream bar with tons of flavors, which is great for the kiddos and adults alike, especially on a hot summer day of putt putt. The ice cream bar is located inside the golf shop. Try the Cappuccino Chip ice cream, it’s the perfect treat!

As you can imagine, a mostly outdoor venue in Florida is quite warm. The putting courses are extra warm. Make sure you dress lightly, much as you would for traditional golfing or visiting a theme park. We suggest a hat or umbrella for some extra sun coverage, and sunscreen, if you’re playing during the day.

Some of the holes offer fans and misters, we think more of those will pop up over the summer. They also have coolers full of ice and towels throughout the courses.

A Day Pass allows you to play both courses, all day, you can even leave and return in the same day, and it is priced at $25 per person. The venue is open fairly early at 9:00 a.m. and closes late at 12:00 a.m. So, a good tip is to arrive as soon as they open, take a break in the afternoon for food and hanging, and play more in the evening. Currently, PopStroke does offer a twilight discount if you come at 10:00 p.m. and you can play until close.

A semi-shaded playground for the kiddos, foosball tables, ping pong tables and a couple of other yard games make for a good break in between your games.

This place will definitely be a popular hangout for the locals and the UCF college students so be prepared for it to be busy. The Winter Garden, Hamlin area will receive its own PopStroke location, but there is no opening date as of yet. Swing in and check out PopStroke!

A major health insurance company will relocate to a smaller office in the Waterford Business District near Miami International Airport.

Minnesota-based United Healthcare (NYSE: UNH) will move one of its Miami offices to a 19,149-square-foot space in the 1000 Waterford building at 1000 N.W. 57th Ct. in the next few months, said Andres del Corral, executive vice president of Blanca Commercial Real Estate.

Trending: Foreclosures spike in South Florida, report says. Here's why.

United Healthcare will relocate from a 50,000-square-foot office in The Landing at MIA at 7600 N.W. 19th St. in Miami, he added.

Blanca CRE brokers Juan Ruiz, Jack Davidson, Jessy Aguila, Tere Blanca, and Corral represented landlord Nuveen Real Estate in the lease negotiations. Adam Bernstein, Aubrie Monahan, and Jeffrey Ingham of JLL represented United Healthcare.

Corral did not say why United Healthcare opted to relocate to the new space or how many jobs will be based there. A spokesperson for JLL did not return an inquiry from the Business Journal at deadline. However, several companies in South Florida have recently opted to lease smaller spaces due to employees working at least part-time at home.

Built in 2009, the 1000 Waterford building is now 81% occupied, a Blanca Commercial Real Estate release stated. The enhancements at 1000 Waterford include a new lobby and the opening of The District Café.

Several corporations such as Subway, Toyota, FedEx, and Sony have offices in the Waterford Business District.

A sushi bar chain that uses a conveyor belt to offer food items to guests told Orlando Business Journal it plans to open its second site in Orlando in spring 2024.

In addition, Kura Sushi USA (Nasdaq: KRUS) will open its second area site in 3,000 square feet of the Waterford Lakes Town Center's former Pier 1 Imports space, company spokeswoman Lauren Murakami told Orlando Business Journal.

The Kura Sushi chain already has a location at 11579 Regency Village Drive in Orlando, which is ranked by Yelp as the region's No. 2 sushi restaurant.

Why this matters: New restaurants can add jobs and are targeted by property owners to fill empty retail spaces.

The chain offers sushi on a conveyor belt that runs throughout the restaurant, which includes the ability to order rolls to the table via the conveyor system or pick from an assortment of rolls off the lower conveyer belt. The chain's menu also includes soup and noodles, sides and deserts along with the full sushi menu.

Kura Sushi USA was formed as a subsidiary of Japan-based Kura Sushi, Inc. in 2008. The company has more than 45 U.S. locations, with 17 more coming soon. It currently has a location open in Aventura, with one on the way in Tampa.

The company's latest eatery will join a plethora of sushi restaurants with Orlando locations, including Seito Sushi, Kabooki Sushi, Sushi Katana, Ootoya Sushi Lounge and more.

Meanwhile, other restaurant chains also have moved into the Waterford Lakes Town Center retail hub during the past year. For example, Dave’s Hot Chicken, CrunCheese Korean Hot Dogs, Barrio Tacos + Tequila + Whiskey and White Rabbit Dessert Experience all were announced as moving into the town center during the year, along with a new location for PopStroke and retailers like The Paper Store and Nike Unite.

“Waterford Lakes Town Center’s commitment to create a positive shopping, dining and entertaining town center is a top priority as we look at the future of shopping destination like ours,” Waterford Lakes Town Center General Manager Lynda Glinski said in a prepared statement. “The new retailers, restaurants and entertainment not only align with our long-term goals but also provide a dynamic experience for families and guests of all ages.”

Lifespace Communities broke ground on a $205 million expansion and renovation for the Waterford senior living facility in Juno Beach.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based nonprofit owns the 492-bed Waterford on 14.5 acres at 601 Universe Blvd. Built in 1982, it currently has 462 independent living beds.

Lifespace Communities will tear down several neighboring single-family homes and villas to expand. The project will add 85 new independent living apartments and eight patio homes, in addition to enhancing the on-site health care services to include assisted living and memory care.

“We’re thrilled to widen our continuum of care and further invest in our community,” said Ky Moody, executive director of the Waterford. “This project helps us to continue enriching the lives of our residents.”

Atlanta-based THW Design is the architect for the project, which will include a 7-story residential tower, a new parking garage and a new amenity building.

The senior population has been steadily growing in Palm Beach County, so there is more demand for senior housing facilities. That has led to more senior housing construction in the county, so older senior care facility owners often respond by renovating and expanding their facilities to compete for residents.
